I have found canvas panels a useful medium for trying out new things. Unlike stretched canvas, the lightness of these panels has released me to work freely and to experiment with medium and form -to draw with paint and to paint as I would draw -sitting down and holding a panel in my lap.
Also, coming here to Australia has put humans in front of me as a subject of my work -clear light and empty never ending streets made their figures look more like an expression of loneliness then anything else.

Bull Terriers

Blind Bull Terrier, 2009 (Pencil on paper, watercolor)

I have seen a man carrying his blind bull terrier with pink bandana around its neck through West End markets and that scene followed me for days. Bull terrier has always been my favorite dog and I have been drawing it since I was a child, but I have never witnessed a blind one in my life so this was a shocking image for me. Finally I drew that blind dog standing in an empty white space with his eyelids coalesced. Then I drew that same dog with his eyes opened, again in a blank space, as he would dream himself seeing.

I have found these laminate tags at Reverse Garbage on West End and I loved the idea of using this "waste" for art, so I got myself couple of dozens of these tags and started painting straight onto them!
